Welcome to Department of Educational Leadership

The Bagwell College of Education鈥檚 Department of Educational Leadership is designed to provide educators with the foundation, advanced knowledge and relevant skills to make a difference in schools and communities today and for the future. Our goal is to provide authentic, relevant instruction to students and to assist educators in meeting their career goals and objectives.

Kennesaw State University鈥檚 programs in Educational Leadership, Teacher Leadership, and Higher Education Administration provide opportunities for students to synthesize and apply knowledge and practice. Throughout their studies, students develop the skills identified in professional standards through substantial, sustained, standards-based work in real settings. Educational Leadership and Teacher Leadership curricula are planned and guided cooperatively by the institution and school district personnel and with state assessment standards.

Bagwell鈥檚 Department of Educational Leadership is committed to providing support to educational leaders in completing certification and degree status of our performance-based programs. It is our goal to make the difference in a student鈥檚 educational experience.

Please note: The GaPSC requires that students complete assessments prior to enrollment and completion in programs that lead to certification (M.Ed., Tier I Certification Only, Ed.S., Tier II Certification Only). The Ethics Entrance Exam must be taken prior to enrollment in certification programs, and the Ethics Exit Exam and GACE or PASL (Tier I and Tier II, respectively) must be taken prior to completion. Students who have taken the Ethics Exams in a M.Ed./Tier I program do not need to re-take for enrollment into the Ed.S./Tier II.

Department Research Profile

The Department of Educational Leadership is one of the largest producers of school leaders in the state of Georgia. Department programs are consistently ranked nationally as 鈥淢ost Affordable鈥� and 鈥淏est Value Online.鈥� The Ed.D. in Educational Leadership is ranked among the 鈥淭op Education Degrees in Online Programs.鈥� The Department currently houses 30% of Doctoral Students at 91青青草 and approximately 25% of Graduate Students in the Bagwell College of Education. Department faculty are regularly sought out as consultants by partner school districts for their expertise in Leadership Preparation; faculty have been invited to present research on principal pipelines and gender pay equity to state organizations. They have served in P-12 education, including roles as principals, area superintendents, and district administrative staff. Faculty hold academic credentials from flagship institutions. Several faculty hold credentials in Professional Coaching.

EDL faculty have expertise in the broad areas of Educational Leadership and Higher Education Administration. Specific areas of expertise include research in the following areas: Principal and Teacher Preparation and Evaluation; Grief Leadership and Trauma-Informed Leadership Practices in Organizational Settings; Human Resources; Student Affairs Standards and Practice; Digital Communities of Practice in Educational Leadership; Improvement of Standardized Testing for English Language Learners; Global/International Education and Sustainability in K-16 Contexts; Independent and Charter Schools Leadership; Contemporary and Historical Leadership Paradigms; P-20 collaborations; State Educational Policy; and Health and Well-Being of Historically Marginalized and Underrepresented Faculty, Staff, and Students Across the P-20 Continuum. Department Grant funding includes a NSF Grant for $445,000 on the topic of Preparing a STEM Workforce and co-partnered with faculty from Virginia Tech and the University of Florida. Exploring Teacher-Leader Development in a Virtual Community of Practice was submitted for $25,000 by QSR International, and Ecology of Black Women School Leaders was awarded a Bagwell College of Education Grant of $2,500.
