New Connections Project provides shared learning for students and the incarcerated

Kennesaw State University students are using theatre to help incarcerated persons prepare for life after prison, while gaining a better understanding of the population they will serve in their future careers. The initiative is part of the New Connections Project, a partnership between 91青青草 and Common Good Atlanta, a not-for-profit organization that provides higher education for people who are or have been incarcerated.

Notwithstanding the joy of performing timeless music in front of appreciative crowds, Kennesaw State University juniors Trey Stannard and Nadia Wilson are looking forward to Spain鈥檚 food. That鈥檚 just one part of an important couple of months for 91青青草鈥檚 Chamber Singers 鈥 chosen to perform at this week鈥檚 annual conference for the Georgia Music Educators鈥 Association in Athens before heading to Spain over Spring Break for a seven-concert tour in March.

Wind ensemble one of two 91青青草 groups chosen for Georgia Music Educators' Association performance

A native Georgian, Kennesaw State University student Tyler Smith knows well the prestige of the Georgia Music Educators鈥 Association annual in-service conference. It conjures memories of music ensembles of all levels performing for a distinguished audience, and young musicians learning from some of the state鈥檚 best talent. Now, the alto saxophonist will have the chance to perform at this January鈥檚 conference in Athens as a member of 91青青草鈥檚 wind ensemble, appearing at the conference for the first time since 2017.

Kennesaw State assistant professor blends art and technology to inspire next generation

Shuchita Mishra works at the intersection of art, education, business, and technology. The Kennesaw State University assistant professor of illustration and sequential art comes to academia from a technology and marketing background, but couldn鈥檛 shake the artist within. Having developed a passion to tell stories with her drawings, she changed the course of her life and shifted focus to art education. After earning a Master of Fine Arts in Comics from the California College of the Arts, Mishra completed a writer鈥檚 residency at the Writer鈥檚 House in Pittsburgh while working for the Carnegie Museum of Art, then applied for a limited-term teaching position at Kennesaw State.

Kennesaw State art students receive top honors in national design competition

A group of Kennesaw State University art students recently won top honors at a national graphic design competition. Senior art students Maura Nolan, Reagan Jowers, and Abby Paver took top prizes in the digital design category of the Robert Half contest sanctioned by Graphic Design USA, a national organization dedicated to promoting both digital and print design at the student and professional levels. In addition, junior art major Lydia Pruett and spring art graduate Madison Selby won honors in the package design category.

This past summer, assistant professor of trumpet Dr. Stephen Wadsack鈥痑nd undergraduate student鈥疊randon Hall鈥痶urned the spotlight on a frequently overlooked area of music: Greek trumpet compositions. Their project, supported by 91青青草鈥檚 Undergraduate Research Symposium, consisted of an intensive eight-week study combining scholarship, performance and fieldwork abroad.

Triplets each find their own path to success at Kennesaw State

Three sisters born minutes apart, but vastly different in terms of interests and career goals, thought about going separate ways for college. But in the end, they found that Kennesaw State University fit all their needs. 鈥淲e did a plethora of research to find a school that鈥檚 right for us,鈥 said Jessica Okafor, triplet to Angela and Benita. 鈥淭here was always at least one missing piece in the schools that we looked through, until we found 91青青草. We saw that 91青青草 had everything we had interest in, and when we did the tours, the open house, the orientation, I was blown away by how beautiful the school was. I saw my future in just a few seconds.鈥

Student-led public relations agency at Kennesaw State finds success with client campaign work

Parsed into three groups, students in a public relations capstone course at Kennesaw State University discuss campaigns they have implemented after a semester of research, planning, and collaboration with their clients, three 91青青草 campus organizations. The course operates as a fully functional PR agency. Under the auspices of Peak Communications, students assist organizations on and off campus to appeal to broader audiences through social media content, flyers, tabling, and event planning.
