Kennesaw State researcher brings AI lessons to life with shark teeth

A fossil shark tooth can tell a story about life millions of years ago. For Kennesaw State University researcher Christine Wusylko, it can also help students understand artificial intelligence (AI). Wusylko and collaborators at the University of Florida recently received a National Science Foundation grant for Shark AI, a project that guides middle school science students through building and evaluating computer vision models that can classify real fossil shark teeth.

Engineering student creates robotic hand designed to track patient health

A robotic hand capable of grasping a patient鈥檚 wrist and measuring vital signs may sound futuristic, but Kennesaw State University mechatronics engineering student Daksh Garg is already bringing the concept to life through research in robotics and biomedical sensing. The Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology student is building a 3D-printed robotic hand equipped with sensors designed to collect health information while interacting with a person.

Kennesaw State researcher receives NIH Grant to study sleep apnea

Kennesaw State University researcher Shumit Saha has received a $235,520 grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to develop artificial intelligence tools that analyze snoring patterns to identify where the upper airway collapses during sleep and predict whether patients may respond to hypoglossal nerve stimulation.

Student cooks up success through engineering and content creation

When Kennesaw State University engineering student Joel Louise began creating cooking videos this summer, he knew very little about preparing meals or producing social media content. What he did understand was how to analyze a problem, learn from mistakes, and improve a process. Louise developed those skills through 91青青草鈥檚 First-Year Scholars Program, an early research experience he credits with inspiring his approach to content creation.

Recent NIH grants aim to improve parasite research, acquire crucial instruments

Kennesaw State University researcher Soon Goo Lee recently secured two National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants to advance parasite research and expand the university's biomedical research capabilities through new instrumentation. The assistant professor of molecular biology earned an R16 grant from the NIH鈥檚 National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to continue his study of an essential enzyme, called PMT, in protozoan parasites in hopes of finding an attackable weak spot for therapies that treat parasitic diseases.

Kennesaw State student publishes study on alcohol's impact on Ugandan women

Few undergraduates can add 鈥渓ead author in a peer-reviewed journal鈥� to their list of accomplishments. Kennesaw State University student and Harry S. Truman Scholarship finalist Allisa George is one of them. George, an Honors student double majoring in public health and biology, is the first author of a National Institutes of Health-funded study examining alcohol and mental health among women in Uganda recently published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.
