Kennesaw State's Wellstar School of Nursing secures $700K scholarship endowment

Honoring the memory of his late wife and son, Marietta resident Glenn Gray recently established the $700,000 Glenn and Virginia Gray Family Nursing Scholarship benefitting students in Kennesaw State University's Wellstar School of Nursing. The scholarship honors Gray's wife, Ginny, who worked as a nurse and passed in 2017, and his son, Rick, who practiced oncology and passed in 2015.

Kennesaw State University alumnus Javon Tucker 鈥�23 is acquainted with the old saying that you should never meet your heroes. The Bachelor of Science in Sport Management graduate had that in mind when he transferred to 91青青草 in 2021 and noticed a familiar name on his class schedule. He was enrolled in associate professor B. Nalani Butler鈥檚 sport management course, and he wondered where he had seen her name before. He discovered that she had co-written a textbook used in a course at his previous institution, one he had read with pleasure. Within the first few classes, he realized Butler was special.

As a nurse at Emory Healthcare, Sydney Conrad 鈥�15 took on some extra duties that involved her working in an educational role with patients and staff. She fell in love with the idea of becoming a nursing educator, so she returned to Kennesaw State University for a master鈥檚 degree. Originally thinking she would focus on education at bedside, the variety of experiences she received in 91青青草鈥檚 Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program have her thinking bigger.

Former SGA president thrives in player development role for Georgia State women's hoops

Bethany Fortson 鈥�23 has had a clear vision of her future for a long time. The former Student Government Association president at Kennesaw State University said her career goal was a position on a Division I coaching staff as a director of player development and community relations, the better to bridge the gap between town and gown through student-athlete involvement. After earning her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science, she earned her master鈥檚 in sport management from Georgia State in 2025 鈥� and stepped right into that role for the Georgia State women鈥檚 basketball team.
